The end of the oil age is on the horizon. Consumption will increase worldwide, but production will not, and may even start to decline later this decade. In conjunction with these macro-economic trends, alternatives to oil are starting to become more cost effecitive and realistic. Electric, fuel cells, hydrogen, etc. are making gains and will continue to do so. I bet within ten years you'll be able to drive something other than a petrol powered automobile. Most likely, a fuel cell or hydrogen powered car. It's really a matter of the costs becoming competitive at this point. The technology is there already.
