<I merely stated that mandatory service would be more appropriate and egalitarian (which is what one would think you would find appropriate).

Freedom is NEVER free.. The Freedom you currently enjoy now was bought and paid for by the blood of hundreds of thousands of past Americans.

The question is how that price is paid, and who winds up paying it.

Hawk, did you see my patented Supply/Demand/Price system?

The way it works is that people who want a service, such as defence of freedom, offer money to potential suppliers. They keep raising their offer until they get sufficient qualified people to take on the job.

That way, only those who want the job take it, the price is as cheap as can be had, the right quality people to do the job are found, nobody is forced to kill or be killed.

What do you think? Nobel Prize for me for such an invention?

There would be no need for the usual draft boards, prisons, fleeing the country, sabotage, courts, and in the end losing the war, or at best doing a very bad job, or at worst ending in civil war.
