The poor do get education, you're right, which is a ladder down for them to climb up if they can. As a nation, no program is more important for the poor to become self-sustaining. However, most public education is paid for by local taxes, not very much from the federal government. Kerry is trying to improve that so as to make No Child Left Behind more of a reality that a promotional camnpaign gimmick. That is money well-spent. Ignorance holds us back as a nation and makes our work force less competitive.

Besides education though, not much else out there. Ask any homeless person. Meanwhile, CEO types get tax breaks worth many millions apiece. Read "Perfectly Legal" and find out how the Bush-Cheney tax code is bent toward the billionaires and CEO class but gives no breaks to average people.
