I have no idea what that has to do with my post about combat however.

I guess my point was that there are many ways in which human beings finally obtain that epiphany which makes us finally recognize how precious life is.

For men, and especially warriors, is often being so close to death that we recognize the value, and fragility, or our lives.

For women, it's that moment when they recognize that they have created it (with a little help, of course.. ;0) and brought it forth into this world to renew the cycle.

For me, it was when I was 10 years old and almost drove my little Yamaha 80cc off of a cliff.. Fortunately, dear old dad hopped off his own motorcycle and grabbed the back end of mine with just inches to spare before I would have plummeted to my death.

It's something that has stuck in my mind for all of my life..

Just like fracturing the ball of my knee, and spending months in a cast and therapy, convinced me that being crippled might actually be a far less desirable fate than being dead and that maybe I'd better take better care of myself rather than taking stupid physical risks to "get my kicks".
