Not enough oil there to send troops. In any case, I'm sure the U.S. is working behind the scenes in Nigeria to ensure the flow of oil continues. We did back the military dictatorship in Nigeria in the early 1990s when they stole the election, and killed environmentalists protesting the way the oil industry was being run. But, there's not enough oil for the U.S. to become militarily involved. Just like in Venezula (sp?), we certainly take an interest in their politics, perhaps even assisting coup plotters against the leftist President, but not to the extent that we're ready to send troops. The ME is where the bulk of our oil comes from and where the bulk of the reserves are, that's why it's so critical and militarily strategic. It's not like the U.S. isn't upfront about our military interest in the ME. Going back to the Carter years, Presidents and other high U.S. officials have made speeches about are willingness to use our military to defend the oil supplies.
