Industries like the RE industry that put out false statistics irritate me somewhat, however.

I am certain that during various lackluster or bust periods in almost any investment, you can find one particular stock, or type of precious metal or real estate subsection to make your case that a particular investment is booming. Thats what the RE people are doing with the bay area. It is equivalent to saying the stock market is booming because TASR is going up while CIsco and Intel are crashing. Pleasanton and Tracy as regions do not hold up the SF peninsula where most of the housing wealth is. As it stands the NAR statistics don't even match the numbers coming out of the fed.
