What I said was that Saddam took the weak position of the US as relayed by Glaspie as a green light. That's pretty obvious since he went ahead with the invasion.

Now once he played his hand do you think he'd cut and run? Heck no...after the invasion there was a whole lot more at stake...and that is why a strongly worded warning was needed up front.

Not... "in the spirit of friendship...what is your intention?"
