I'm not aware of anyone wanting to be invaded, unless there were a few Iraqis hoping the US would invade and knock out Saddam.
Getting back to the subject, that's why "grave consequences" is very likely to be interpreted as a threat of war and invasion. It's just a fanct way of putting it.

ANd I think there were more than "a few" Iraqis who wanted the US to knock out SH. Think "Kurd".

Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.
Eh? Take that over to Ask God and see how your opinion flies.

/// When you hear the "They will welcome us with flowers" refrain, YOU ARE IN TROUBLE! ///

Statements like these will get you into trouble around here Laz. I know because I agree with you.

That "flowers" refrain was the party line about the Cuban reception to the Bay of Pigs invaders. Instead, they welcomed them with bullets, bombs, and shells.

A gov't trying to sell that is almost certainly lying. The "almost" is because there probably could have been exceptions. The Hungarians likely would have welcomed a Western army during their 1956 revolt.
