It employs four sensors per aircraft, each containing a number of optical components. The AN/AAQ-24(V) Nemesis is a directional infrared countermeasure (DIRCM) suite, the first in production and fielded for many years. It combines missile warning sensors and infrared countermeasures. While these systems were originally developed for military aircraft, Northrop Grumman is adapting the DIRCM system under contract to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), participating in that Department's program to develop and test anti-missile systems designed to protect commercial aircraft
