I guess that we shouldn't forget that having a book for sale seems to be the rule rather than the exception. Should we also now discount what Hannity, Coulter, Limbaugh, Zel Miller, O'Reilly, Colmes, Morris, Dean, Woodward, Wilson, Russert and other authors say?...The list of book authors goes on and on.
I see no problem with someone expressing their views in a book. Nor do I see having a book out as being a reason that we should wholesale throw out the message. In fact if someone has written a book about their view it opens up their thinking for a more critical assessment of their opinion.
I look at the message, not how it is being disseminated. Those in politics, usually don't need a book to get out their views. They have the floor in congress or the bully pulpit of the white house. Editors of newspapers have the opinion column, and journalists have their daily or weekly columns.
Should we only take as credible those folks that don't have books? Only those folks that have a column or a TV show?
I'm afraid that your use of the fact that someone has a book to sell carries no weight with respect to the validity of the message. If it did then you would also have to say that Hannity, Coulter and Limbaugh's messages should be ignored...and I have not heard that from you as of yet.
