How do you know they didn't?
They were reportedly living in the same block as the terrorists in Southern California, so they were probably on top of it.
All the reports I've read said that it was the Germans and Brits who warned......more the Germans rather than anyone else. France and Italy played small roles as well. I never read a thing about Israel.
RE: "Israel saw 9/11 as a needed catalyst to get us to play a more active role in their war with the Arabs."
You mean sort of like how Bush is saying an Iranian spy fed wrong information as a catalyst for the USA to engage war with Iraq?
No, I think its more they saw 9/11 as the slap across the face that would get us to fight........and, of course, they were right.
That would be a huge accusation.
Why?
Our own CIA alerted the FBI about the terrorists, yet nothing was done. Our country ignored warnings so I would bet you Israel's govt did alert the USA, but was ignored.
Amy, I've seen no evidence to that effect.
RE: "I am unclear what we get out of this relationship with Israel other than a lot of hassles."
I'm unclear as to why Bush feels oil is so important that he orchestrates world affairs with an agenda, when the need for oil can be reduced.
We need to reduce our dependency upon Middle East oil. It's unbelievable to me, we start a $300B war, but don't bother giving the auto industry (GM, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc.) huge RND refunds for bringing online alternative solutions.
I agree about our oil dependency but why do you see a connection between that and our support of Israel?
