Investment security vital for sustainable energy

3 June 2004 - Global investment in sustainable energy technologies will only occur if Governments create effective and long-term policies, according to business leaders at the Bonn Renewables Summit.

Addressing a special meeting at the summit John Roberts, Chairman of the UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy, says: "We believe that smart business is a green business. But to deliver, business needs the right market messages. This highlights the importance of firm targets, backed by effective policy frameworks and with a clear commitment across Governments to the sustainable energy agenda."

The UKBCSE, with European, Australian and US Business Councils for Sustainable Energy, have launched at Bonn a new initiative to create investment security for sustainable energy. This calls for: clear legally-based incentive frameworks and consistent policy

John Roberts said, "The mixed messages that businesses regularly experience must be avoided if targets are to be delivered."
