All this wonderful D-Day coverage on MSNBC has filled me with the need to brag. 4 of my great uncles served during WWII.

--Uncle Joseph landed at Normandy, was shot in the face & survived. (I can still remember the slight indentation in his right cheek that he carried for the rest of his life. That MASH surgeon must have been excellent.)

--Uncle Michael was in the Air Force & served in India during WWII.

--Uncle Daniel saw lots of action in the South Pacific and was very fortunate to return home intact.

--Uncle John was the luckiest and was assigned to Hawaii after the Pearl Harbor attack.

--Last but certainly not least, was Aunt Anna who as an Army Nurse was assigned to a hospital in Tokyo after armistice. She also served at Freedom Village(prisoner exchange) after Korean War. She retired with rank of Major & was in charge of the nursery at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Wash DC after 25yr career.

They're all gone now and without a doubt were truly a wonderful part of The Greatest Generation.

That was my little family tribute to a few of our WWII heros. Gone but not forgotten. Thanks for listening.
