>> His two predecessors, Deutch and Woolsey, were misearable fools who destroyed the clandestine service.

Yesterday on Chris Matthews, Woolsey said he thought the wmd were moved to Syria. Before the war, Woolsey was a constant presence in talk shows saying Iraq was definitely hiding wmd.

>> They begin from the presumption that WMD programs are covert and the job of the analyst is to take fragments of evidence and identify the outlines of the programs they "know" must exist.

I don't think anyone is under the illusion that Saddam would not have liked to have wmd. Or that he would not revive the programs if he could.

The huge error and disservice was in saying that stockpiles could be hidden, and inspections would not find them. And as proof, gave Powell really absurd contentions to be offered as proof.

Such as the barns in the Kurdish area.

First they were outside of Saddam's rech. And second, they were visited within 2 days by european journalists and were confirmed to be abandoned animal shelters with no water or electricity.

Or the hydrogen trailers. Also within a couple of days, retired military analysts were saying the trailers exist in all armies, and are used for loating weather balloons.

Yet Tenet and Powell would not retreat from this position for a year and a half.

What do they think of their audience ? Do they assume everyone is an idiot ? You'd think they have some respect for their own credibility.

>> How would you like to see Steve Cambone as DCI?

I don't think he'll be confirmed for dog-catcher after his testimony to the Senate committee alongside Gen. Taguba. When he had to retreat from nearly every initial response he gave.

I am very disappointed the President did not take the opportunity to admit that basing the invasion of Iraq on wmd was an error. Because in the mind of the Iraqi people, the occupation is premised on a lie. The arrests of scientists were all based on lies. The destruction of the Iraqi army and the killing of tens of thousands of people were on the false pretext that they were a threat to the US.

Resistance continues. Human losses are continuing. And there will be no end in sight. The liberation motive will never be believed, as long as the wmd motive is not disowned. And the interim government will also be seen as just a puppet helping a foreign power invade the country on false pretexts. Regardless of what actual good they do.
