If they elect a gov of theocrats, they will once again become enslaved. The American Democratic-Republic had the wisdom to separate church & state. The melding of those organizations always creates an oppressive society.

While I prefer the separation of Church and State, can we impose our wisdom on others? There are many here in the US that want to see the Church more involved in Government. Many of the religious right are actively involved in taking over the government from within, through elections. The followers of Pat Robertson, and even many of the supporters of Bush, believe that we should be governed by the "will of God". This is really no different than the Muslims of Iraq electing a group of Theocrats to govern them.

But that said there will be difficulties when you allow religion of one group to dominate the affairs of the government. This is why I will fight for a strong separation of Church and State...and at the same time will fight for freedom of religion here in our country.

We cannot expect perfection from any endeavor that attempts to abolish an evil. When you fight a ruthless enemy, you will not win if perfection is your goal.

I disagree. We must demand perfection. You cannot win if perfection is not your goal. Anything less is acceptance of laziness and lack of integrity. This is the kind of thinking that allows for the tragedy of Abu Ghraib. Anything less than striving for perfection in our actions undermines our objectives.

Instead, those who share the terrorists religion, should have started to fight the evil before it became strong enough to threaten the entire world. Don't shoot the messenger who has the courage to fight the evil that was not confronted when it could have prevented innocent bloodshed.

I agree that it is mostly up to the Muslim world to self police themselves. To strike down evil when it rears it's ugly head.
