I don't know what the dead know (what I wrote was tongue in cheek), and it isn't even all that obvious what the living think- but I am sure that some of the relatives certainly will not rest. Other relatives will be worn out by sorrow and give up, and still others will just go on with the business of living, and try to put the past behind them. I am sure there are any number of ways the living will deal with their losses.
