U.S. plans to slash Korea troops

cnn.com

This headline is barely surfacing above the stuff about Reagan, but this is yet another significant shift of America's role in Korea. Of course, all of the American news agencies missed the fact that this has been in the works for some time. Even months ago, the U.S. military has been pulling out of central Seoul and toward less populated areas. This is significant in symbolic terms because the American buildings in current modern-day Seoul have been occupying prime real estate, and that's been a constant weight on Korean nationalistic pride.

Personally I think this is a step in the right direction. And this is a time when we can do it without looking weak, not only in the eyes of North Korea, but also in the eyes of our Asian allies, including Japan and Taiwan.
