If you keep things in context, you wouldnt be so harsh on FDR. He tried imaginitive things to get us out of depression. Remember there were no safety nets and we were in unchartered waters. And the republicans back then were clueless. As for the soviets, it turned out WC was right and FDR wrong but Churchill as well as FDR both knew that after WW2 the US and UK were in no position to fight another war. The Russians were brave allies during WW2. Without them we arguably might not have won. So mix a little naivite with a little thankfulness and a touch of GI desire for an end to war and you get a failed policy but a policy that may not have had an alternative in 1945. Anyway Truman caught on quick. Yes its a shame for folks who spent their time behind the iron curtain. I just dont think we really had the power or could have mustered the will to resist the Soviet land grab after WW2. mike
PS why is this the wrong week for comparison. Reagan really passed 10 years ago. This is a great week imo to remember him and his works and not to mourn. We should celebrate his life and his deliverance from alzheimers. John is just jockeying for time so he can prepare his attack next week when he it will be far more PC. And if nothing else john openly admits to loving being PC.
