re: Its not just that Bush's or Kerry's campaign can grab statements from the other side and use them out of context to portray the other side as meaning something that they don't, its also that the very possibility of such a thing happening causes both sides to be more defensive, and reinforces the already existing tendency to sound bites. Simple, non-nuanced, relatively absolute statements become the order of the day rather then a careful public examination of the issues. This really is nothing new, its been like that for as long as we have had politics.

Can't argue with that. But you have to admit that Kerry, so far, is taking the high road. Far fewer negative ads.

I'm starting to like the guy.
