Perhaps Reagan's incredibly lopsided victories in 1980 and 1984 had something to do with the "myth". 1980 Popular Vote 50.7% Reagan 41.0% Carter 6.6% Anderson Electoral Vote 489 Reagan 19 Carter 0 Anderson That was nothing. One could suppose that Anderson had something to do with Carter's poor showing.
