Cleland is not in the Senate because the rightwing used lies and slander to defeat him. It was one of the most sick and disgusting negative campaigns ever waged in US politics. The rightwing needs to be punished severely for that, what they did to McCain and what they are trying to do to Kerry. All American heros whom the rightwing has smeared and libeled.
