Hi Taro,

I think they need to keep moving into higher value-added W-OFDM segments (such as WiMAX WMAN). The commodity Wi-Fi business will be driven by the giants ultimately since the vertical integration becomes more important over time. They are the OFDM fabless leader - they need to maintain and build on that lead as newer standards emerge. (I would note that the founder of T-Span/Atheros is now involved with T-Zero - a Multiband OFDM (WPAN) startup tzti.com )

I haven't heard any word of Atheros' plans re: the High Data Rate standard IEEE802.11n (WLAN), though I do know that Broadcom and others are already well into development of same.

I guess we'll see what comes out over the next while - will be interesting to see if they become a takeover target.
