Tejek, RE: "Just because you and I think there's a more constructive route (getting less dependent upon oil) doesn't mean that an Oil Industry Halliburton Republican would see it that way. Yes, that makes sense."

Bingo. Bush is really pursuing the older school of thought, prior to alternative forms of energy being prevalent. During the 70s, the auto industry had their hands tied, but now they don't. Someone really needs to tell Bush the auto industry is ready to shift gears away from oil.

Bush's background is oil......why would he want the auto industry to shift gears into alternative energy uses?

RE: "A hi tech GOP from CA is a totally diff. animal than a TX GOP."

Bush doesn't seem like a Republican to me. He spends a lot of money,

He spent a lot of money in TX.......they had a budget crisis after he left.

increases the debt,

Same in TX.

is against stem research,

TX is S. Baptist.......opposed to abortion and any tinkering with human DNA.

and he is more into religion than business prosperity.

Typical of a S. Baptist mentality.......I don't think he is S. Baptist but he acts like one.

For businesses to truly prosper, he needs to get rid of the huge dependency on oil, get a liberal-minded leader to handle this terrorism problem - not someone that's been trained only on the cold war.

Then he would be a Dem. ;~)

RE: " There is no question in my mind that the most innovative approaches to life in the 21st century are coming from the Dems. Unfortunately, the outdated concepts still sell well to the general public."

The problem is the salesperson (Bush, Congress), not with the public's ability to approve modern day concepts. A message needs to be repetitive, consistent and they should never assume the public won't grasp it. You can convince anyone to do nearly anything, as long as you're confident about it. Your article you posted mentions this. Reagan was very good at that. So was Clinton to a large degree.

I agree.........Bush can barely talk in public. He can convey only the simplest of messages.

On a different note, CNN had a videoclip of Mrs. Reagan hugging the casket which contained Reagan. Very, very touching. Sad to see her alone without her husband. I hope she takes on advocating stem research. She succeeded with her "No Drugs" campaign.

Yes, its very sad to watch. I imagine she will follow him shortly.
