William, I think #1 is likely, #2 hopeful. The NYT article is interesting. If Tivo (or others) could bypass the cable operators and deliver content via the Internet, then they no longer need these arrangements. A problem is probably the time it will take to build a critical mass of content, at the same time that it becomes obvious that they are competing with their "customers" like Direct TV.

Regardless if little Tivo prospers or even survives, it is certainly turning the broadcast television market on it's head. Stock or no stock, it's fun to watch, and the Tivo story could be a full semester course for an MBA program.
