I have been following this debate between you and Maurice and am impressed by the knowledge both of you have re: these two companies. I would offer only the following:
Both will be successful - the market is huge
The technoweenies love Iridium because of all the technology in the sky - see Lloyd's satellite site.
CDMA is the better technology. That isn't being seriously debated anymore. The question of HOW much better is perhaps yet to be decided.
Globalstar costs 2.5 bil vs. 4.5 Iridium so Iridium needs to makeke just mere 2 bil more just to be even with G*
The Dow Jones News Service had a stmt on Jan 10 saying Iridium had conceded the 3rd world market to other competitors like G* and would instead target the business traveler. That was a very practical decision on their part given the fact that Bernard and his boys were way ahead in negotiating deals with other countries and still are. Maurice's analysis of India was excellent.
VERY IMPORTANT FOR INVESTORS - G* has issued virtually all its public shares and is essentially fully funded. Iridium still has more shares which it can issue to the public - Dilution!
I like G* strategy to use local service providers and like their strategic partners - Airtouch, Alcatel, Loral, etc.

We all have to love the current up trend. I am told that Merrily Lynch brokers are telling their clients the Iridium will be the next Iomega. A momentum stock? They are fun to ride up but very painful to ride down. I am banking that Bernard will do the same with Loral and G* that he did with the old Loral. I love the track record.
