Let's ignore what you have commented upon for the time being.

Don't you think that AAs are in genuine political trouble if the Dems (1) continue to advocate unpopular liberal policies in the face of a drift by voters to the right, a fact that Clinton brilliantly understood while keeping his liberal credentials intact? And, (2) if the Dem party should drift to the right in order to attract a larger number of mainstream voters, aren't AAs going to not feel at home as Dems?

Look, I'm a right wing GOP kind of guy. I recognize that AAs are not in a good political situation no matter how you look at things. But I think that the Dem party is a lot more responsible for this than some alleged GOP racism, which is a cheap and convenient bugaboo.

Nixon and his ilk are dead. We live in a different era. While you talk about Bush II's racism, I would point out to you that he has had more minority involvement in his Admin. than anyone. At top spots. It's an argument I didn't want to use but you made me do it.

African Americans more than any group need a political place to call home. If I were black and thinking about such things, I would conclude that the political opportunities for me offered by the GOP--who wants to win elections and therefore is interested in numbers--are much more exciting than the ones offered by the Dems. Counter-intuitive, I know, but there you have it.
