"African Americans more than any group need a political place to call home. If I were black and thinking about such things, I would conclude that the political opportunities for me offered by the GOP--who wants to win elections and therefore is interested in numbers--are much more exciting than the ones offered by the Dems. Counter-intuitive, I know, but there you have it. "

Not counter intuitive at all C2. AA's will benefit when there vote is competed for. Currently dems run as liberals in black communities and as moderates elsewhere. It enables them to ignore that constituency once elected.
