MB, those freebies aren't necessarily free anymore. I'm in the 2nd tier of credit ratings as far as my auto insurance goes, because, they say, I have too many revolving cards (department store, I gather). Also, as my father-in-law learned from his agent, deadbeats like me, who never carry a balance, are worse risks. So if I just pay a few thousand in interest each year, I can get a $25 break on my policy.

I have several cards I acquired years ago for the freebies but haven't used since, so now I realize I should be closing them out. D'oh! And what a crock to use a credit rating to evaluate my driving... that's no different that using any other metric, such as skin color, eye color, or hair (or lack thereof). Just another scam, in my opinion.
