You make a great many assumptions and assertions in your post which are debatable, rather than spring boards from which other things can be argued. I'm not particularly interested in the topic so will not work up some long and detailed bit. It wouldn't do any good any way. Rather, just to state the obvious other side.

1. The large, large majority of blacks have found and continue to find the policies advocated by the Dem Party at the national and state level more compatible with their own definitions of self interest. Witness the voting patterns.
2. We've established that 40% of the electorate will vote Democratic so, the argument about "unpopular liberal policies" needs to be specified. Certainly unpopular with the putative 40% that votes Rep; debatable about the 20% in the middle. The best descriptions of mainstream I've seen are socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Socially liberal, in my book, means trying to redress structural sources of segregation. Which the Reps don't do; some of them will talk the talk; but definitely won't walk the walk because the alignment of their base makes it difficult to impossible.
3. The big problem with the black vote, in my view, is that they don't register and vote. One of the reasons is that every attempt to make registering and voting more user friendly is adamantly opposed by the Republican Party.
4. The Nixon is dead comment is wonderful. I hadn't noticed. But his spirit still lives. Just take a look at the Rep party base throughout many, if not most of the southern states. Someone posted the platform of the Texas Republican party the other day. The southern wing of the Rep party keeps redefining how far right is right. Hopeless bigotry.
