Unlike John Mitchell, Meese was never indicted, never convicted, as I recall. His financial dealings were subject to investigation, but he was never charged. His lasting contribution to the Reagan cult was the damage control he did during Iran/Contra. His coverup, lies and other activities there were indictable, probably, but the political will to challenge Reagan when the chips were down simply dissolved. Neither Congress nor the so-called liberal press had the courage to pursue that scandal to its dark heart. M2
