I agree with you on the principle but not on the application. Sure, we congregate with our own kind. What matters, though, is how we define "our own kind." Some people define it in terms of race. Other people associate with those who are like them in other ways. Think of the movement of libertarians to Vermont or New Hampshire or wherever. Or goth kids or jocks or brainiacs. Is a black brainiac drawn more toward blacks or brainiacs, assuming he has to choose between them? When a group is under stress, it tends to cling together for strength. Take away that stress and the priorities go elsewhere.
