24:19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

This is in Joshua's speech before his death. He knows that the Israelites will be inclined toward paganism after he dies. He means that you can't serve God as a pagan. This speech also contains the verse that adorns many a door knocker.

Joshua 24:15
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD ."

TALK ABOUT A CROOKED FIGHT

When God takes a side, it is indeed an uneven fight.

Joshua 23:10
One of you routs a thousand, because the LORD your God fights for you, just as he promised.
