"He means that you can't serve God as a pagan."

That is not what it says.

Well, as Shaw says:

"No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says: He is always convinced that it says what he means."

Did you ever wonder at how THICK people were in those days when God fights with them to exterminate every other human they can possibly exterminate, yet they need to be told over and over to believe in Him**. I mean, look....if God had taken a flooding river and turned the water into walls of rock so that you could walk on the riverbed without getting nary a drop of water on your feet....would YOU scratch your head every day and think: "hey**did I dream all that or what? Well,He does seem rather stong....hmmm...but is He REALLY on my side??**

Joshua

3:16
That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

3:17
And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
