There is one aspect of success and opportunity that is always missing from your arguments...It is a four letter word ending in k.

Our social scientists are very good at examining root causes of social distress. We analyze problems to death. You continuously recommend books that we should read to gain greater insight into the problem. John, the problem has been identified. It is way past time to apply the rest of the problem solving process.

While the great analytical effort continues, many have already found the solution. Hopefully the scientists will see that soon and shift their effort from constantly analyzing underlying causes to seeking practical solutions.

Many have successfully escaped a childhood in the ghetto to achieve personal fame and great fortune. Many many more have escaped to lead responsible and fruitful lives full of happiness. In doing so they provided a greater opportunity for their children.

Those former ghetto dwellers who have accomplished these things are black, white and brown. They escaped the life of bottom-dwelling before they ever heard of all the analysis and statistics. They all found the solution long before they found a university. And they all used the same simple tool to move out and up...It is called work.
