Did you see that news item that some Toyota dealers are tacking on thousadns of dollars to the price of the Prius because it is in such demand? Also, the MSRP seems to have been lifted thousands of dollars. So here are folks who are willing to pay, say, $12,000 more upfront for a Prius that averages about 50 mpg as opposed to the a same-sized Corolla that averages about 30 mpg. So if gasoline goes to $5.00 a gallon, they will have to drive over 180,000 miles to recover the extra cost. And if gasoline goes to $10 a gallon they will still have to drive 90,000 miles to recover the cost.

I think it is just the SUV thing in reverse. That is, suddenly it is really cool to burn less gasoline.

I want to get a Mercedes SUV to park in the driveway and use as an extra bedroom [G].
