"One example that is interpreted by many as "bending the law" is the constitutionality of the patriot act"

Congress voted for it overwhelmingly. If you don't like hypocrits (which I think you have clained), you should be mighty ticked at the dems that voted for it, and now oppose it. All for political reasons imo.

And if many people interpret that Ashcroft is "bending the law" by following the legal patriot act, then I will state the obivous and say that those same people are either dumb or dishonest. If you really hate the patriot act, and feel it does more harm than good, then take it out on the elected officials that voted for it. Make sense?

"Another is the new definition of terrorists"

I don't think there is a new "definition" of terrorist. JF thinks of himself a bit of an expert in the definition of terrorist, so you may want to check with him.

"previously guaranteed constitutional rights afforded one who has been arrested in our country"

I think the "guaranteed constitutional rights" are for U.S. citizen. The ONE example you are most likely referring it Jose Padilla, who is a U.S. citizen arrested on our soil. It is in the courts, and probably you guys will win this. I am comfortable with citizens getting our "guaranteed constitutional rights" if arrested here. We'll see what happens. Padilla did admit to being a terrorist, but still probably will get his day in court.
