Why would Bush Sr. be symbolic to me? I see him as merely an extension of Reagan....not overly meaningful in the whole grand scheme of things.

The part that you didn't understand about my post is that I believe most of the economic stuff is due to normal cycles. Most of it would have happened with or without whomever was in office.

But if you want to give Clinton credit for the boom, you have to give him credit for the bust. Because most of the bust happened during his tenure. And even you have to understand that the events that happen during the first year of any presidency are really the aftereffects of the previous term.

And that is assuming that there was *any* credit or blame to give. Just because something good or bad happens under a president and some politician takes credit or assigns blame, doesn't mean that any politician really influenced the event. Your politician or their politician, they are all experts at taking credit for shit that they didn't do and assigning blame to their opponent.
