The key element in the story is "tagged." It wasn't hidden stuff that was smuggled out, it was stuff UNMOVIC had tagged, that was looted.

The US did not invade Iraq over tagged stuff that was sitting in warehouses, it was over things we thought he was still hiding.

In other words, we have yet more egg on our faces for failing to prevent wholesale looting of potentially dangerous items that prior to the invasion were being kept in a safe place, and are now who-knows-where.

It is, of course, deeply ironic that the invasion has caused these dangerous items to go onto the black market.
