It's too bad more people don't want to pay to help people with school and daycare. I happen to agree with you- but since it costs more than what we are doing now, many people (and many conservatives) won't agree with you. They want to pay less and get more, which really doesn't work very often. For quality, you pay more- and a quality solution often involves front end costs, that a slap dash solution does not require (even though the slap dash solution solves nothing in the long run.) I have always said we should feed and house people, but spend the real money on people who want to better themselves (though we need to try to improve all children, imo, since I do not think we can make them suffer for the sins of their parents. Bad parents make their children suffer quite enough already, I do not think society should add to their burden by blaming them for their parents- especially since that is counterproductive.)

So, while I will join you in paying more for people to go to school and have daycare (good daycare, that might help overcome bad parenting, and break the cycle of poverty). we're going to be lonely paying for these things all by ourselves.
