I like Edwards as well. I was impressed that he spoke about the poor in the United States
during the primaries. The press also reported that people really liked him once they got
to know him.

Today's NYTimes reports that McCain was offered the second spot but refused:

"John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, has repeatedly
and personally asked Senator John McCain, the independent-minded Arizona Republican,
to consider being his running mate, but Mr. McCain has refused, people
who have spoken to both men said Friday."
