We will adapt, the sooner we start the better. Barring any significant supplies disruptions, I dont think the transition will be so tough the next 5 years unless you have a driveway full of $45,000 SUV's that you cannot afford now.

Hopefully we have a 10 year period to make some serious changes before declines really start biting. We can do allot with auto transportation. I think the average for gasoline is about 17 mpg city.

This country has a more imminent energy threat from the natural gas shortage. The industry just spent hundreds of billions of dollars for NG fired generation this demand has run smack into tremendous declines in supply.

Home heating and electric bills will be terrible because of NG.

The present coal shortage can be relieved in a few years though.
