If saudi collapses and we seize the oil fields my understanding is that there would not be much loss of life in just the securing of those fields and the maintaining the flow. PLease correct me if i am wrong about the saudi fields.
But in answer to your question i think we are compelled to do both because we havent done either since the Gulf War.
