What's truly amazing, is how successful the militarists have been, in appropriating the symbols of Jefferson and Jesus (while totally ignoring the substance of what these Revered Elders said). They wrap themselves in the flag, while trashing the Constitution; they constantly and proclaim their submission to Jesus, while violating everything said in the Sermon on the Mount.
If they were going to post the 10 Commandants in public buildings, and honestly say what they actually practice, it'd be:
#6: Do not murder, except for terrorists, prisoners, innocent bystanders, people who scare me, people who I imagine might attack my country, etc.
#7: Be faithful in marriage, more or less, or at least pretend. (Limbaugh is getting divorced, for the third time.... It'd be a very long list, all the Administration people and their apologists, who are divorced.)
#8: Do not steal, except it's OK to try to fund our wars of conquest, by appropriating the oil revenues of the conquered nation. Their resources are our vital national interests.
#9: Do not tell lies about others, except if you need to scare the population into supporting a war of aggression, or get re-elected, or....
#10: Do not want anything that belongs to someone else, except if the next TV commercial says you need breasts as big as she has, or teeth as white as he has. |
