I don't have a problem with precision and with asking questions. I am saying that the idea that liberalism and conservatism can be philosophically split between economic and social spheres is false, that it just does not happen in our system.

And, for example, there are PLENTY of people who are 'moderate' on social issues, but 'conservative' of fiscal matters....

These are highly imprecise designations. They are not generally rooted in anything permanent. So to me, they are pretty meaningless.

Just as there are apparently (see the current government) plenty of people willing to be extreme fiscal liberals, but who maintain that they are also 'conservative' on social policies.

Hah. Okay. So, yeah. There are moderates on social stuff who are fiscal conservatives just like there are liberal spending Bush conservatives. You've here supported my position, Buddy. This 'moderate here and conservative there' stuff does not exist.

It's an important distinction to make... and always has been.

I don't think it really exists. People are just saying crap to make their crap more palatable to themselves and others, but ultimately, I think they are all lying about what they really are in nature.
