Not a technicality. Many of the Contras had no connection to Somoza or his national guard. Enrique Bermúdez was a former National Guard officer but other leaders where businessmen and one of the major leaders was a former Sandanista. Other enemys of the Sandanistas came from the Miskito, Sumu and Rama Amerindian peoples in the South or along the coast

In a prior post, you claimed that Nicaragua was never under the Contras but now you admit that at least some of the Contras were former Samozans who did rule Nicaragua for decades.

Some of the contras where formally in Somoza's military yes. There is no contradiction between recognizing that and saying "Many of the Contras had no connection to Somoza or his national guard.", or even saying "Nicaragua was never under the Contras." Many of the people who worked for or fought for the Nazis had power or influence in earlier regimes or where supporters of earlier regimes. But it is still true to say that the Nazis didn't rule Germany until 1933. Just as it is true to say the Contras never ruled Nicaragua.

If someone has ruled, that fact does not change whether they call themselves Contras, Reps, Dems, or the Wizard of Oz. Maybe they did not rule as Contras but they were once rulers of Nicaragua. A name change rarely changes one's ideology and that was the reason for the discussion originally.

Just as aside.....you made a very small point that had little to do with the original exchange.
