Eureka! Vidya in WOW. You're not going to believe this, but Vidya can be plotted in WOW. Here's how it can be done (and I've posted a chart showing the results at: members.aol.com
First, export data for a stock (AMES, for example) from WOW to Excel, using the "Comma separated price data" option in WOW. In this file ("Ames1," for example), calculate Vidya in Excel using the formulas given in the October 1995 issue of TASC. TASC gives a picture of the file, showing how it's set up, along with all the formulas. The steps are not difficult.
You even provided a link to a site that apparently has a Vidya Excel template; I was unable to reach the site ("Not available on this server"), but maybe some people can: halcyon.com
Once "Ames1" is set up, with Vidya calculated down the column, for each date of the stock you're working with, save the file as an Excel document.
Then go back to WOW and export another file of the same stock, AMES. Export it as a CSV file, so it can be easily imported back. You could call it "Ames2."
Now, go back to "Ames1," the Excel file, and copy the whole column of Vidya data(column K) and paste it into the "open" price column in the second file, "Ames2," the CSV file that you've exported from WOW. Copy it using "Special Paste," so you get only the values, not the Vidya formulas. Don't change the other columns. Now save this file, "Ames2," once again as a CSV file. Go back to WOW and import this CSV file, "Ames2." When you bring up this "stock," called "Ames2," there will be a dotted line running through the price line. This is called "open," but it's really Vidya.
Since that's the case, it's easy to do the Vidya bands. Create these formulas for the upper and lower bands:
Upper Vidya band: open+var*open
Lower Vidya band: open-var*open where the default value is .01 (.03 works better with small caps)
Remember, with this weird new Vidya chart, "open" is actually Ames' Vidya, which you substituted for "open" when you were in Excel.
If you don't think the dotted Vidya line is clear enough, change it to a solid line, and change the color.
That's a lot of steps, but once you've created the template in Excel, it's fairly simple to do with any stock.
Anyway, that's it. A "simple" way to plot Vidya and its bands in WOW (well, not that simple, but not impossible, either).
