Sonki--- When I arrived home from work and turned on the evening news it was discovered my account was down about 37%. Tues I dropped another 9%. There was nothing to do at that point. Why sell? Many did and just locked in their losses. I did not mainly because I had no idea what to do. Everyone was scrambling to cover margin, loans, and thinking the end of the world had arrived. In about a month I was putting all possible into mutual funds--- they seemed so cheap and more diversified--- about 4 months later I cashed CDs and put every dime possible in the market,, which was stable to rising. Within 10 months the bargain buying and price increases had recoverd all losses... still being shaken some issues were cashed and mutual funds and CDs became the SAFE area for quite some time. Much later bonds and stocks were purchased and played the same as today. Many think they can get out in a fast down turn--- never happen. There are not enough brokers... the down can move faster than a broker can clear his/her own portfolio.. When --- whoops--- IF it hits just figure there are 2 choices ,,,,, to either ride the possibly long return or sell and lock losses... neither is fun. If cash is available when the bottom stabilizes buy,buy and buy some more.
