The problem, as we have already seen, is that when there is a super-ordinate governing body, it’s membership may lose their individualism wherein we find a principled disposition. Members of the larger group tend to sacrifice principle in lieu of acceptance by the group.

The result is that no one individual has the power or fortitude to act or speak against the group. This conundrum is commonly known as ‘Group Think’.

When one’s conduct, especially the reasoning and decision making aspects of actions are relegated to a super-ordinate group, the principles ordinarily associated with human conscience and judgment are sacrificed. This is typically characterized by the refusal to view the goals and perspectives of the group with what would be considered normal criticism. The real communication of or about the group then is only heard from outsiders.

The most serious problem associated with group thinking is that individuals within the group are rarely aware of the group think.

The will of the group becomes corrupted as circumstances change from whatever they were that first brought the group into formation. Members are paralyzed to act with a free conscience and must continue, lock step, promoting and protecting the agenda of the group even as its beneficial contributions to the society that spawned it become obsolete.
