Fortunately, not all terrorists are geniuses. Therefore, the almost 7ft tall, thin, mid-east looking male who just exited an American tran-atlantic flight, might be OBL or possibly an NBA star. It makes sense to verify who he is in fact, rather than focusing solely on the red-haired, 85y/o white man behind him. Profiling doesn't mean you ignore every passenger other than those who look mid-eastern, it simply acknowledges that ignoring the profile is dangerously stupid.
Unfortunately, when you profile, you end up overlooking possible culprits. Israelis treat each passenger, including someone like Sharon, as if he/she is suspect. Its a very effective.
