Mephisto, John McCain's recent explanation why he turned down Kerry's VP offer explains my view of that position as well. McCain reminded the audience that he was once a POW. He added "I don't want to ever again be kept in the dark and fed scraps". Edwards would help Kerry appear more moderate. Some reporters have made the observation that Kerry is worried he might be upstaged by Edwards. Mr Remote would definitely be overshadowed by Mr Up close & Personal. My interest in Edwards preceded Dems selection of Kerry--when that happened, I was cured & returned to GW's ranch.
